Theme Reveal #AtoZChallenge 2019

I am participating in the 2019 A To Z April Blogging Challenge this year! Yay! This will be my 6th year doing the Challenge, and this time, for real, I am all about simplicity. And brevity. And other things I sort of epically failed to be in past years. But! This time, I mean it! I have laboriously hand-written a novel (titled, for the moment, “My Novel,” because I am having trouble with the whole title thing; it is a Horror/Mystery/Comedy novel starring Simon Wake, Edwardian Occult Investigator) and would like to spend most of my writing-time this April typing the thing up. That means limiting the scope of my A to Z severely. And that is what I intend to do.

For those of you who have not seen my former A to Zs, and thus do not know quite why I am taking this tone of stern reproof with myself, you could go and look at some of my past efforts now. My past A to Zs are, in my extremely not-humble opinion, great. They also took, some of them, an average of 18 hours a day (that was in 2015, when I wrote, essentially, a mystery novel, and dressed up as a new character from said novel every day, and included a picture of myself so disguised with every post). Anyway, this year will be different.

This year will also be Mystery Tropes. There! I’ve finally done it! I have revealed my theme! Some of my tropes will be yanked directly from a post I wrote in 2014 called Prelude To Murder; some of my tropes will be new; some of them will probably be made up on the spot in a blind panic; some of them will be carefully thought-out beforehand. I am going to try to focus on the sort of trope that, once spotted, can help the reader solve the mystery without reference to the actual clues.

Happy blogging, everyone!
