A to Z 2025 Theme Reveal

I will be participating in the A to Z Challenge this year! I have a complete mystery story, set a few years after WWI, all written and ready to go. Yes, you read that right: all written. As of today (Thursday, March 13th), I am typing up “W” (I like to do first drafts longhand).

And the organizing principle of the whole story is this: the murder happens in chapter “M,” and the second murder happens in “S.” So, you’re going to have plenty of time to get to know the characters before they start dropping like flies.

I’m not absolutely promising, by the way, that the murders stop at two. The English manor in which the story is largely set could explode near the end of the story, taking the whole complicated family with it—and Inspector Crowner and Sergeant Mug, too. Or there could be other killings after “S.” You’ll have to read it to find out.

So, please join me this April for my classic murder mystery extravaganza!

  1. Great! Looking forward to it.

  2. YAY
    I’ll be reading along.
Sadly, no AtoZ for me this year.

    Can’t wait to follow along.

    • Hi Stuart! I skipped the A to Z last year–I felt like my tank was dry. But I’ve been working on this one for a while now, and I feel good about it. And very, very excited to be able to participate again. Really happy to have you following along!

  3. Yay! How exciting to see Inspector Crowner and Sergeant Mug back in action. Please don’t blow them up! Wait until they’re down at the bottom of the meadow discovering that someone’s been picking the W for Wolfsbane before you set off your X for Xplosion!!!

    • Hi Anne! Really nice to see you in the comments again! As always, I am charmed by your suggestion. I even like that your proposed X is a bit of a cheat; I feel like the X entry kind of asks for cheating.
And, I mean, I like Crowner and Mug, too, so… they’re probably safe? Although I suppose it is just possible that I’ll get disenchanted with my ending, in which case, I have the dynamite in reserve.
      Happy A to Zing!

  4. I really am looking forward to this.
I wish I had it in me this year.

Wait. Last day of March and I’ll think of something. Happens far too often.

Maybe a whole month of rude people.

    Grrrr.

  5. YES! Murder mysteries are my favorite!

  6. Looking forward to another exciting murder mystery!

    • Yay! Hi Kristin! Nice to see you again! And good luck with your A to Z (which looks really interesting, and I’m really impressed that you have enough information about your family history to be able to go day-by-day like that).

  7. Sounds fun! I also write first drafts longhand.

    • Hi! Yeah, longhand is kind of key, though I’ve tried once or twice to break the habit, because in theory it is just way more efficient to do the first draft on a computer. I’m also pretty fussy about notebooks. Line width matters a lot to me.

Your A to Zs (both of them!) sound amazing!

  8. I am so excited! 😀 It sounds fantastic!

  9. How fun! And I’m so impressed you’ve got your mystery written – well done.

  10. Sounds fun, I’m excited to play along! Will the AtoZ braintrust be able to solve it?
