The Lighthouse: A Partial Floor Plan

by Sam Golightly, Head Janitor

“People like a map of a place.” I told them and told them, and eventually they listened. That’s how I come to be addressing you now.

They had their objections, of course. Never known a “they” that didn’t. “Oh, but Mr. Golightly!” They said. “How can you make a map of The Lighthouse? You don’t even have clearance for lots of it.”

I calmed them down. I said I’d confine my map to what I know, adding in a bit of an observation or a rumor here and there.

They weren’t going to let me, even then. But they didn’t have anything else good for “L,” so they let me rip after all.

Now, I hear that The Hub has more doors for some people than it has for me. That seems odd, but this place isn’t like other places. Anyway, I wouldn’t be too sure that your Hub is like mine, if I were you.

  1. That is quite a floorplan! I’ve made plot plans for several of my stories but an entire floorplan–I’m impressed.

  2. What a delight. I’m so glad you found me, so I could find my way back to you. I’ve just finishing reading all your posts up to this point, and of course I’m properly hooked. What fun! Except for all the dangerous bits, of course. No minimizing that.

  3. I always always love your visuals 🙂

  4. First item of concern: no restrooms.
Second item of concern: no vending machines.
Third item of concern: circle back to restrooms.
I would be slowly backing away, randomly whistling …

    (well done as always!)

    • Yes, restrooms are a pretty important feature of maps like this, aren’t they? As in, there are moments in all of our lives where nothing else on a map like this really matters. Perhaps… that information is… classified? Hm… you know, even for The Lighthouse, that seems unlikely.

  5. I don’t get the map, are these levels like a lighthouse or all one flat space? I’m not very good at reading floor maps.

    have a lovely day.

  6. Nicely done!

One speculates the doors in the The Hall of Many Doors lead to different times, and that Mr. Golightly’s familiarity with The Hall is based on personal observation of said Doors. Has he ever tried to open any of them? Are they locked? Must Agents be accompanied to their assigned door, or are they given a key that allows them access? Are they met and escorted back to Ops upon their return, or are they trusted to find their way back to Ops so they can be brought before the Core for upload?

Have any people who belong in the past come through a Door meant to facilitate an Agent’s return?

  7. I love a good map!
